OXFORD — Last September, 64 men and women from around New England, Canada and beyond gathered to roll logs, throw axes, cut with chainsaws and compete in other events.
Equal parts impressive and unforgettable, it’s a scene known as Woodsmen’s Day at Oxford County Fair, a tradition that honors and celebrates the forestry industry while providing a great time for the many people who come just to observe.
For more than 25 years, Norway Savings Bank has been pleased to sponsor the event, including with a recent $2,500 donation to event organizers for this year’s competition on Friday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m.
“It has been a great asset to have the interest and contributions of Norway Savings Bank in helping to continue this great event for many, many years,” said Elaine Emery, an organizer of Woodsmen’s Day. “Every year, it draws tremendous competitors and certainly delights the crowds that gather to take it in.”
Since the 1840s, the Oxford County Fair has been a September staple for residents as well as visitors from across the county. The fair features all of the festival favorites like live music, food, amusement rides and, of course, demonstrations celebrating the beauty of rural life.
“It’s always a treat to look through the schedule and see how much time and effort the organizers obviously put into ensuring the next generation develops a passion and appreciation of the fair, the importance of agriculture, and our shared history,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings. “NSB is pleased to be a part of this great fair that has stood the test of time and certainly made its mark in so many ways.”
This year’s Oxford County Fair will run from Wednesday, Sept. 10 through Saturday, Sept. 13. To learn more about the fair, view the complete schedule of events, or to access admission information, visit www.oxfordcountyfair.com.
