Singer Jessie J is facing an unexpected health setback as she continues to recover from breast cancer surgery.

“How I spent the last 24 hours,” Jessie, 37, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, August 3, sharing a photo of an IV connected to her arm. “Six weeks post-surgery, and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned.”

She added, “I had, and still have, symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT, THANK GOD.”

According to the “Price Tag” singer, her doctors ran a bunch of tests that concluded she had a currently unknown type of infection and “a little fluid” in her lungs.

“Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night. I hate being in [the] hospital,” Jessie added in her social media update. “[I] will continue the investigation as an outpatient.”

In a follow-up slide, Jessie defended her decision to check out of the emergency room early.

“I know many people who will have gone through this or similar may agree with me or not, and that’s OK,” she wrote. “I know, for me, the true hard journey of this whole thing physically was the day I went into surgery. The recovery, physically, is far from quick or easy.”

Jessie revealed in June that she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer that required surgical intervention to remove the malignant tissue. Jessie underwent the procedure on June 23, later revealing that all of the cancerous spots had been removed.

While Jessie has been recovering, her partner, Chanan Colman, has taken on the brunt of parenting duties with their 2-year-old son, Sky.

“Mentally it’s been the most challenging time for me, especially as a mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am,” Jessie explained in her Sunday post. “And having to change the plans for my career for this year has been frustrating after working so hard to get to this point and excited to do it all. It’s life, I know that.”

She added, “Don’t get me wrong — getting the all clear was and is incredible, but that result didn’t speed up or make the recovery from the surgery any easier physically.”

Jessie also wanted to remind herself to “slow tf down” to let her body heal.

“This isn’t a speedy recovery, and it isn’t meant to be,” the musician said. “That slow pace has been a hard reality to accept. I love moving and working and being up and active, but I can’t be right now, and that’s what it is. I am finding the strength in knowing that all can be adjusted to align with a slower pace and the support of my very small inner support circle.”
