Influencer Irene Gu reportedly sent her boyfriend a message about domestic violence before she was found dead.
Gu, 23, shared an image of a protective order she applied for on her Threads account on Monday, July 28.
“Yes, there is also domestic violence,” Gu wrote in Chinese in a message translated by Us Weekly. “If you beat me, I will go to the police station.”
In a follow-up message, Gu explained why she didn’t want to block her then-boyfriend on social media.

“Someone asked me why I don’t block him?” she wrote in a translated message. “Because he’ll find me [and] he’ll stop me. He even asked my colleagues if I was at work, disturbing coworkers.”
Gu, who worked in publicity for a nightclub in Taipei, further claimed that, “most importantly” she didn’t owe her partner any money.
“If you have some details, one by one, see whether it’s a voluntary giving or a loan relationship,” she concluded.
Gu was reportedly found dead outside a movie theater earlier this week. The U.K.’s Metro newspaper reported that Gu’s car had been blocked by her boyfriend, who has not been publicly identified. He allegedly dragged Gu into a stairwell and slit her throat before fleeing the scene.
Gu’s boyfriend was arrested by Taiwanese police on Thursday, July 31, confessing to her murder, Metro reported. He also claimed that he wanted to get back the approximately $13,000 he lent to Gu during their relationship.
Ahead of her death, Gu had denied her boyfriend’s claims that she borrowed money.

“What he said is not true. After the breakup, he wanted to make up and ask me to forgive him, not having sex with a guest,” she wrote via Threads on Monday, allegedly referring to a nightclub patron. “It’s slander, you know?”
She continued, addressing her partner directly, “I didn’t owe you any money, you cut all my boutique bags, clothes, daily supplies and Dyson hair dryer and air purifier and threw away the evidence worth 1.5 million.”
Gu further told her boyfriend that she would “see him in court,” and that she had police records documenting his alleged harassment.
“Don’t let me close the door or even pull with my friends when I get in the car, even friends are still pulling back to the driver’s seat, so friends will stop with chili water, there is no doubt of abetting,” she wrote in a translated statement. “All harassment police records, including coming to my house and work to block me, see you in court.”
An investigation into Gu’s death is still ongoing.
In addition to her job in public relations, Gu was also an influencer who had more than 20,000 followers on Instagram.
