The former home of Legacy Sandwich on State Street is for sale, less than two months after the business shuttered due to a rat infestation.
The building at 163 State St. — which includes a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor, a space for a business or apartment on the ground floor and a basement — is listed for $299,000 by the Masiello Group.
The 3,010 square-foot building was built in 1880 and sits on .17 acres, according to the listing.
The listing comes months after the Legacy voluntarily closed on June 16, when a health inspection found rat droppings and an infestation linked to a large hole in the basement. It was the second time the shop had closed within a year.
The hole in the basement is going to be fixed before the building is sold, Michelle Ridley of the Masiello Group said.
Additionally, the banner outside the shop has been removed and the inside is being cleaned. Most of the equipment is being taken out, and the future buyer will decide if they want the remaining equipment, Ridley said.
The Legacy’s owner, Diane Bernosky, could not be reached for comment.
The zoning for the building doesn’t require another restaurant to open on the ground floor. The building could become a retail space, apartments or any other endeavor that fits the multifamily and service district zoning.
The land and building previously sold for $195,000 in 2019.
The city valued the land and building at $227,700 in April.
There hasn’t been any interest in the building since it was posted Friday morning, Ridley said.
Before the closure, the Legacy was known for Bangor’s iconic “coffee pot” sandwich, inspired by the sandwiches made for decades at the original Coffee Pot. The coffee pot sandwich is a Bangor specialty made with ham, salami, cheese and other toppings.
