
A man and woman were arrested late Tuesday night after Brewer police found drugs in their car along with a 5-year-old at a park.
Richard Newell, 48, of Old Town has been charged with unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs, and Amanda Brothers, 42, of Old Town has been charged with unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs, endangering the welfare of a child and falsifying physical evidence, according to the Brewer Police Department.
An officer found the pair inside a parked vehicle at Indian Trail Park about 11:27 p.m. during a routine check of city parks. The park closes 30 minutes after sunset.
During a search of their vehicle, police found crack cocaine. Brothers allegedly tried to hide drug paraphernalia in the child’s car seat.
Newell and Brothers were arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. The child, who was not harmed, was released into the custody of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
