Nate Bargatze is looking forward to hosting the 77th annual Emmy Awards this year.
After previously working with CBS in his holiday special Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas in 2024, Variety revealed that the stand up comedian would be hosting the 2025 Emmys.
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show and I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world,” Bargatze shared in a statement to the outlet.
Meanwhile, Television Academy chair Cris Abrego also shared his excitement over Bargatze hosting the annual television award show.

“Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe,” Abrego told the outlet. “We are thrilled to be able to leverage his one-of-a-kind perspective to entertain TV fans watching this year’s Emmy telecast.”
While nominations have yet to be released, last year the FX series Shōgun took home the most Emmy Awards with 18 wins. The series made history as the most-winning show in a single season.

Who Is Hosting the 2025 Emmys?
Bargatze will serve as the host for the 77th annual Emmy Awards. While this is the first time the comedian will be hosting the famed award show, it is far from his first hosting gig. Bargatze hosted Saturday Night Live in 2023 and 2024 — which he credits for really jump-starting his stand up career.
“SNL’s really done a lot of stuff for me,” he told People in February 2025. “I owe a lot of this to SNL, and [creator], Lorne [Michaels].”

On July 15, What We Do in the Shadows actor Harvey Guillén, Running Point star Brenda Song and Television Academy chair Cris Abrego unveiled the list of nominees for the 2025 Emmys.
Apple TV+’s Severance led the pack of nominees, racking up 27 total nods for its second season.
New breakouts, including HBO Max’s The Pitt, Netflix’s Adolescence and Apple TV+’s The Studio, also received nominations in the major categories.

News broke in July 2025 that married couple Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen will become the first duo to jointly receive the honor.
“Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen have long used their voices, and their hearts, to champion causes that uplift the planet and its people,” Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, said in a statement. “From environmental advocacy to humanitarian relief, they lead with grace, integrity and purpose.
