‘Days of Our Lives’ Addresses Rumors About ‘Integral’ Cast Member’s Exit

Suzanne Rogers has been a part of the Days of Our Lives cast for more than 50 years, but she’s not ready to leave just yet.

A spokesperson for the soap opera addressed recent rumors that Rogers, 82, is retiring from the show in a statement to Soap Opera Digest on Tuesday, July 29, saying they “could not be further from the truth.”

“Maggie and Suzanne are integral to the show’s history, present storylines, and now, on the heels of our pick-up, the future! Neither are going anywhere,” the spokesperson added.

Rogers has played the role of Maggie Horton Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives since 1973. Earlier this month, rumors began to circulate online that the actress was planning to exit the series, with one Facebook post reportedly falsely claiming that Rogers had already announced her departure.

Kelly Monaco, Alison Sweeney and More Shocking Soap Opera Exits

The show’s rare statement about Rogers comes days after Peacock announced that it had renewed Days of Our Lives for two more seasons, bringing the soap through its 63rd season. The series will also celebrate its 60th anniversary this November, and many fans are expecting Rogers to receive a tribute as the longest-running cast member.

Among recent storylines on Days is Maggie helping her daughter, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey), navigate life after her divorce from Xander (Paul Telfer) and help Sarah fight for custody of her baby, Victoria. Maggie also played a big role in the power struggle between the DiMera and the Kiriakis clans.

Rogers, who won her first Daytime Emmy Award in 1979 for Outstanding Supporting Actress, addressed her retirement plans in an August 2023 interview with Soap Opera Digest.

“I still talk to a few people from back home and they say, ‘When are you going to retire?’” she told the outlet while celebrating her 50th anniversary with the series. “I say, ‘Well, I’m still enjoying what I’m doing.’”

Rogers added, “I’m kind of shocked that I’ve been on the show for 50 years; I mean, how many people can say that? I guess it’s a testament to the fact that the show wanted to keep me around, and the audience liked the character. And I still love what I’m doing, so it’s all a win.”

While Rogers is here to stay, other Days of Our Lives cast members have exited the series in recent months. Peyton Meyer left his role as Doug Williams III on July 25, less than one year after he joined the soap.

In March, Billy Flynn announced his exit as Chad DiMera on Days of Our Lives, revealing his plans to move over to The Young and the Restless.

“I love acting, and I love stories, and I never imagined I would just tell one story for the rest of my life,” Flynn, 39, told Variety. “The fact that I’ve been here 10 years and it’s gone by in the blink of an eye is amazing to me. I wasn’t a baby when I started here; I was 30. I didn’t start acting until I was 26. So it’s gone by really fast.”

He continued, “I think with this character, I’ve done everything I can with it. I’m looking forward to doing something new. I’m about to start a new journey and tell another story. It really is just that simple.”

He made his debut as Aristotle Dumas on Y&R in June. Flynn will continue to appear on Days of Our Lives until early 2026.

“There’s a lot of moving parts that were involved,” he told Us Weekly of his transition to Y&R. “It was a whirlwind of emotions — mainly excitement, but there was fear involved. I was leaving something that was very comfortable and seemingly secure. It’s never really in this industry, but it felt like a gamble. I have a wife and two kids. But at the same time, it felt like something I needed in my life. It felt like a serendipitous thing, the way the universe put all these different pieces together for it to align where the opportunity came when it did, and how it did.”
