After reading the recent article on Bangor’s public restrooms I felt the need to comment on it. First of all, I think the restrooms were installed in areas where they weren’t useful. I’ve commented on this issue in a previous letter to the editor.
The waterfront is where they are needed. This is where people congregate, this is where the food trucks are setting up. This is where festivals are held. It only makes sense.
Then there is the issue about dirty needles. Now a proposal for implementing a supervised injection site in the city as a potential solution has been made. Back in 2019 Brent Hawkes proposed safe consumption sites for Bangor. The idea was scoffed at. So let’s be clear when and who originally proposed this idea. It was a good idea then and still is.
