The application period for the antlerless deer lottery closes at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
An antlerless deer is any deer which does not have antlers or any deer which has antlers less than three inches in length measured from the skull. An antlerless deer permit is in addition to the buck that is granted by the Maine big-game hunting license.
A generous 123,695 permits are up for grabs this year, with wildlife management zones 17, 23 and 25 offering the highest allocations.
The lottery drawing will take place on Aug. 14, and payment of $12 for awarded permits is due by Sep.11. Extra antlerless permits will be available for sale on Sept. 16.
Antlerless deer permits may not be swapped or transferred.
