Sanford Police Chief Eric Small wants to unseat U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.
Small said Monday morning in announcing his campaign that he wants to “restore common sense, accountability, and public safety.”
“While career politicians like Chellie Pingree are busy playing DC games, Maine families are struggling with rising crime, open borders, and failed drug policies that are destroying our towns,” Small wrote.
Small, a Republican, began his law enforcement career with the Berwick Police Department in 2001 and joined the Sanford police force in 2008, according to the Sanford Springvale News.
He was appointed police chief last October after the retirement of Craig Andersen.
Pingree, a Democrat, has represented the 1st Congressional District since 2009. In 2024, Pingree won a three-way race with about 59 percent of the vote
