Yes, The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal — but it also transports the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a whole new phase.

The movie, which premiered on Friday, July 25, introduced fans to the latest iteration of the superhero group. Pascal appeared as Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) while Vanessa Kirby played his wife, Sue Storm (Invisible Woman). Joe Quinn took the role of Sue’s brother Johnny Storm (Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach rounds out the foursome as Ben Grimm (The Thing).

Plot details have been few and far between but one thing’s for sure, the Fantastic Four are not in our universe … yet. The Thunderbolts post-credits scene confirms that the Fantastic Four will make their way into this realm, but it’s unclear when or how.

Warning: Spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps below.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place on Earth-828, and the superhero group have spent four years protecting the world with their powers. Sue reveals that she’s pregnant and well, Reed is — as Johnny notes — way out of his depth. After the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) comes to Earth and reveals Galactus (Ralph Ineson) is about to destroy their planet, the Fantastic Four head to space.

Naturally, things go very wrong as Sue goes into labor just as Galactus attempts to capture baby Franklin who has a lot of power, it seems. The rest of the movie is pretty much just the Fantastic Four attempting to defeat Galactus and save Franklin — which they do.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach Says Pedro Pascal Started a ‘Fantastic Four’ Group Chat

Keep scrolling to find out if there’s an end credits scene for The Fantastic Four: First Steps:

How Does ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ End?

Very emotionally, actually. Sue proves that nothing can beat a mother’s strength as she uses her forcefields to teleport Galactus to the end of the universe. The immense amount of power that she uses actually kills her. However, Reed puts Franklin on her chest and the baby brings her right back to life.

This poses a huge question: Who is this kid?

Does Anyone Die in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’?

Yes, but no. Sue technically dies but thankfully her son is able to bring her back to life. We need Kirby alive onscreen so she can also carry the sequel on her back.

Is There a Post-Credits Scene in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’?

Well, this is a Marvel movie so of course there is. The mid-credits scene shows a four-year time jump and Franklin is now a toddler, spending some alone time with Sue. She leaves to go get him a book and when she returns, there’s a man in a green cloak holding a mask in his hand.

This appears to be Doctor Doom, which would set up the future of the film universe as Avengers: Doomsday is on the horizon. (It was confirmed in July 2024 that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the film franchise as the villain.)

A second scene at the end of the credits just shows the Fantastic Four cartoon that is referenced throughout the film.
