Police seized carfentanil and methamphetamine Tuesday during a raid in Passadumkeag.
Colin Smith, 59, has been charged with unlawful drug trafficking and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person; Tonya Albano, 48, has been charged with unlawful drug trafficking; and Christopher Reed, 48, has been charged with unlawful drug trafficking and violating his conditions of release, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
All three are from Passadumkeag.
Deputies searched a Pleasant Street home as part of an ongoing investigation. During that raid, officers seized meth and the synthetic opioid carfentanil.
Carfentanil was originally designed for tranquilizing large animals such as elephants. It is 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more powerful than fentanyl. Just 0.02 milligrams can cause a fatal overdose, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Deputies also seized a shotgun, a handgun, ammunition and more than $1,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
Smith, Albano and Reed remained at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor on Wednesday morning, according to the jail’s website.
