The firm plans to stake all holdings and still has $5M capacity left via equity-line facilities. Crucially, DeFi Dev Corp isn’t building a massive Solana treasury just for itself; it plans to use the reserve as the basis for a strategic treasury franchising model.
Under the model, DFDV would support regional public Solana treasury vehicles, with support from Kraken, Pantera, and more. By providing operational, strategic, and technical infrastructure, DFDV would open the door to Solana treasuries to more companies.
It’s the next stage in a continuing evolution of the crypto treasuries movement. Strategy’s Bitcoin approach seeks to amass as much Bitcoin as possible and relies on unrealised gains to power stock price increases. DFDV’s approach relies on validator revenue and staking rewards to maximise ‘SOL per share’ (SPS) over time.
From Treasuries to Tokenized Assets
Meanwhile, Mercurity Fintech just snagged a $200M investment from Solana Ventures to power its own Solana treasury.
The initiative includes building a SOL token base, staking via validator operations, engaging in DeFi activities, and investing in Solana ecosystem projects. It marks a strategic pivot beyond fintech infrastructure toward a deeper on-chain presence.
In particular, the $200M will fund three specific goals:
- Acquire $SOL for an institutional-grade treasury
- Generate long-term yield with Solana DeFi, staking, and validator nodes
- Invest in Solana projects, including real-world assets
Real-world assets (RWAs) provide additional value through diversification and the chance to earn $SOL off real-world development.
The latest surge in Solana development has already paid off for $SOL, as the chain recently jumped Aptos to claim a spot in the top three blockchains by RWAs.
Solana Breaks $200 (Briefly)
News about treasuries nearly always boosts prices, in part because treasuries typically indicate long-term demand. The promise of steady, large purchases of Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana holds out the potential for steady purchase pressure.
It’s no surprise, then, that Solana soared 5% in the past day. For a short time late in the night on July 21, $SOL broke $200.
It eventually returned to earth slightly, trading just above $195 currently.
