Hats off to Tonya Troiani for having the courage to voice an opinion, in a July 8 letter to the editor in the Bangor Daily News, that resonates with a lot of us: There’s far too much noise that we add to our environment these days.
And I can’t remember the last time I read an article or heard about anyone doing a study on behalf of code enforcement on the decibel level of ambient noise created by the human presence. It needs to be pointed out from time to time just to raise awareness.
But one of the problems I’m afraid, is that many, it seems, really like noise, and think the louder, the better! They know exactly what they’re doing, and enjoy sticking it in the ear of everyone around them. I think they want attention and have no respect for ordinances and rules that most towns and lakeside communities already have in place.
Where’s the enforcement? I suspect it’s lacking because a lot of them are running around on their own bikes, trucks and boats with the disabled mufflers and think it’s the coolest thing ever.
Thanks again, Tonya, for starting the conversation. We hear ya!
