Celebrities are making waves with their latest baby name choice.

From Amber Heard to Taylor Frankie Paul, famous moms — and dads — have decided to give their children a unique moniker: Ocean. The gender-neutral name has been rising in popularity over the years, with Nameberry reporting that it was given to 483 boys and 325 girls in 2024.

Spy Kids alum Alexa PenaVega decided to name her son Ocean King due to its “beautiful biblical meaning.”

“God called the dry ground ‘land’ and the water the ‘seas.’ And God saw that it was good. That is why we went with Ocean,” she wrote in an August 2016 Instagram post.

Below, see other celebrities who’ve named their children Ocean:

Lala Kent

The Vanderpump Rules star named her first daughter Ocean in March 2021. Kent shares Ocean with ex-fiancé Randall Emmett.

“We were in the Bahamas three years ago, I walked past this yacht and it was called the Ocean Alexander, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, the name Ocean, it has to be my baby’s name,’” she told Entertainment Tonight in May 2021. “We knew that we were going to name our first baby — whether it was a boy or a girl — Ocean.”

Lala welcomed her second daughter, Sosa, as a single mom in September 2024. Sosa actually means “saltwater” in Portuguese.

Alexa and Carlos PenaVega

The couple named their first child, a son, Ocean King in 2016.

Alexa shared via Instagram in August of that year, “(For those asking about our name choice… 🙂 -God called the dry ground ‘land’ and the water the ‘seas.’ And God saw that it was good. — That is why we went with Ocean. And he is a son of the one true ‘King.’ For us it has a beautiful biblical meaning. 🌊👑.”

Alexa and Carlos also share son Kingston and daughter Rio, born in 2019 and 2021, respectively. They sadly experienced the stillbirth of their daughter Indy in April 2024.

Amber Heard

Heard welcomed twins in 2025 — son Ocean and daughter Agnes — who joined their big sister, Oonagh Paige, who was born in 2021.

Jesy Nelson

The Little Mix alum shared via Instagram in May 2025 that she welcomed twin daughters with boyfriend Zion Foster.

“We’ve never felt more in love 🥹 Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster Born on 15.05.2025 🌊📖,” she shared.

Bonnie Wright

The actress, known for playing Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films, has a son named Elio Ocean, born in September 2023, with husband Andrew Lococo.

She is an environmental activist, which might explain the name choice. (The name Elio also primarily means sun or sunshine.)

Ashlyn Harris

The soccer star shares daughter Sloane, born in 2021, and son Ocean, born in 2022, with ex-wife Ali Krieger.

“We are incredibly thankful and excited for this new chapter as we parent 2 under 2. Let the sleepless nights rage on @alikrieger … I wouldn’t want it any other way,” Harris shared via Instagram at the time of Ocean’s adoption. “Ocean Maeve Krieger-Harris, welcome to the family baby boy. Your Moms and big sister love you very much.🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊.”

Forest Whitaker

The Oscar winner welcomed his first child and only son, Ocean, in 1990 with a previous partner.

In 1996, Whitaker married his now late ex-wife Keisha Nash and the two welcomed daughters Sonnet and True in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Nash also had a daughter, Autumn, from a previous relationship, whom Whitaker helped raise.

Taylor Frankie Paul

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star shares two children with her ex-husband, Tate Paul — daughter Indy, born in 2017, and son Ocean, born in 2020.

“The names I love are just not for everyone. I feel like they’re kinda unique,” Taylor shared in a 2023 TikTok video.

Taylor and her then-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, welcomed son Ever True in 2024, but have since split.

Desi Perkins

The makeup artist and influencer welcomed her son, Ocean, in October 2020 with husband Steven Perkins.

When it came to naming her son, she didn’t ever consider Ocean as a name but it came to her one day and stuck in her mind.

“Even when I was saying it, I wasn’t sure of that name,” Perkins said in a YouTube video following his birth. “But, Steven loved it, like, instantly. I didn’t even know it was a name.”

Desi and Steven welcomed a daughter, Harley, in August 2022.

Jeff Goldblum

The Jurassic Park alum shares son Charlie Ocean with his wife, rhythmic gymnast Emilie Goldblum. In a 2016 interview with Parade, Jeff explained that Charlie’s middle name was inspired by his and Emilie’s love of the beach.

In April 2017, they welcomed their second son, River Joe.
