An Albion man is charged with seven felonies after he allegedly drove drunk and hit three people, killing a 3-year-old boy.
Benjamin Lancaster, 44, had his first appearance in Kennebec County Superior Court on Monday afternoon. He is charged with one felony count each of manslaughter and aggravated criminal operating under the influence, Class B; two counts of aggravated criminal operating under the influence, Class C; and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.
Lancaster was granted $100,000 cash bail.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m., Friday on Hussey Road in Albion and police said the driver fled the scene.
The crash killed 3-year-old Bradley, and left another child in critical condition. The second boy, Noah, was pronounced brain dead Sunday morning, according to a GoFundMe for the family. Their mother, Mollie Egold, has serious injuries and is still in the hospital.
Egold was walking to a store with her twin boys in a cart, the GoFundMe said.
Police later found Lancaster, who allegedly was driving a white 2016 Hyundai Veloster when he crashed into the family.
