As a resident of Newcastle since 2020, I’m grateful for Rep. Lydia Crafts’ work on behalf of our community, especially her efforts to secure funding for the maintenance of Maine’s extensive network of roads and bridges, pedestrian and bike routes, rail lines, and ferry facilities.
Maine’s transportation infrastructure has been neglected for too long. Anyone who has driven through Lincoln County or elsewhere in the state knows the reality: potholes, crumbling shoulders, and outdated infrastructures are far too common.
As House chair of the Transportation Committee, Rep. Crafts, D-Newcastle, has taken on this tough issue with determination and common sense. From the beginning of her first term, she and her committee have prioritized the pursuit of a sustainable, long-term funding solution for Maine’s transportation infrastructure.
It’s a mission that couldn’t be more important in a state where winters take a harsh toll on our roads. The consequences are clear — Maine ranks fourth-worst bridge conditions in the country, and 54 percent of our major roads are rated in poor or fair condition.
What stands out most is Rep. Crafts’ approach: practical, collaborative, and focused on results. Infrastructure may not be a flashy topic, but it’s one that affects all of us every day. She understands that, and she’s doing the hard, often thankless work to make meaningful progress.
We’re fortunate to have her representing us.
