A failure in the battery or electrical system of an all-terrain vehicle sparked a house fire in Vassalboro on Friday afternoon.
The fire at 1087 Webber Pond Road was reported just before 3 p.m. When crews arrived, they found a large farmhouse with heavy fire showing on the exterior, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames before they spread inside the house, which was unoccupied at the time.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental and caused by the ATV, which had been parked outside the home.
