Sen. Susan Collins is receiving praise from some for voting against the Republican’s tax and spending bill in its final form. I don’t believe she deserves it.
Indeed, she helped facilitate the terrible legislation’s passage by voting “yes” in late June on a procedural vote that allowed the legislation to go to the Senate floor for a full vote last week that enabled President Donald Trump to get his wish for a 4th of July signing.
Collins claimed she wanted to ask her Republican colleagues to make amendments prior to the vote, but she allowed the train to leave the station. If she had somehow delayed the vote and allowed more debate, more Americans could’ve found out how raw a deal this is for most of them.
