Julian McMahon’s cause of death has been revealed after less than one week.
According to a Cremation Approval Summary Report from the Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office obtained by Us Weekly, McMahon died from lung metastasis as a result of head and neck metastatic cancer. People, who was first to break the news, also reported that McMahon’s remains were cremated.
The late actor’s wife, Kelly McMahon, announced his death on July 4, sharing that he’d been privately fighting an unspecified type of cancer prior to his passing. He was 56.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly said in a statement to Deadline at the time. “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

Julian was survived by Kelly, whom he tied the knot with in 2014, and his 25-year-old daughter, Madison, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Brooke Burns in June 2000. (Julian and Burns were married from 1999 to 2001, and he was also previously married to Dannii Minogue from 1994 to 1995.)
As for his career, Julian was a Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for his roles as Cole Turner on Charmed from 2000 to 2005; Dr. Christian Troy on Nip/Tuck from 2003 to 2010; Jonah on Runaways from 2017 to 2018; Jess LaCroix on FBI: Most Wanted from 2020 to 2022 and Victor Von Doom in 2005’s Fantastic Four film and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Julian’s final Instagram post in February promoted his latest film, The Surfer.
“Hey there everyone. Just letting you know we have a great movie coming out, directed by Lorcan Finnegan,” he wrote. “Its premiere is at SXSW, very exciting, and it’s in theaters May 2nd. It’s a psychological thriller, very unique and very entertaining. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. Cheers.”

The following month, Julian made his last public appearance at the North American premiere of The Surfer during SXSW in Austin, Texas, posing for photos on the red carpet alongside his costar Nicolas Cage.
Also in March, another of Julian’s final projects, The Residence, debuted on Netflix. The late actor portrayed Australian Prime Minister Stephen Roos on the miniseries, which was fitting since his late father, Sir William McMahon, served in that capacity in real life from 1971 to 1972.
