Six kids have been accused of vandalizing vacant properties in Bingham.
The children, who range in age from 9 to 16, have been charged with burglary and aggravated criminal mischief, according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster.
On April 24, the kids allegedly broke into the former Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Center on Owens Street, where they broke windows and damaged walls.
Lancaster said Thursday morning that it will cost more than $85,000 to clean up the property. That doesn’t include the cost to repair the damage.
Then, on June 26, the children allegedly broke into the former Thompson’s Restaurant on Main Street, where deputies later found extensive damage mirroring that found at Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Center.
The cost of the damage there is still being assessed, Lancaster said.
Additional charges are possible as the investigation proceeds.
