A runaway horse was captured Wednesday morning along Interstate 95.
The horse was spotted in the northbound breakdown lane, near mile marker 145, running alongside traffic before crossing through the median onto the other side of the highway about 3 a.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Troopers found the horse running in the passing lane, near mile marker 143 in Burnham, and using a rope, they secured the horse to the bumper of a cruiser, Moss said Wednesday.
“Although frightened, the horse was not injured,” Moss said.
The horse had wandered from a nearby Snake Root Road property in Pittsfield during the night without anyone noticing, according to Moss.
The horse’s owner picked up the animal and brought it home.
