The bridge carrying the Route 1 Bypass over the Piscataqua River between Maine and New Hampshire will close for two days next week.
That will allow crews to inspect the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.
The closure will affect traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days, the department said Tuesday.
During the closure, traffic on the Route 1 Bypass will be directed to the Piscataqua River Bridge, which carries Interstate 95 between the two states, and the Memorial Bridge, which carries U.S. Route 1 over the Piscataqua River.
Signs, traffic control devices and police will help direct drivers to these detours.
The bridges connect Kittery and Portsmouth.
The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge has a mechanical lift, which needs to be inspected next week.
The inspection will involve crews from the Maine and New Hampshire departments of transportation.
