State police on Friday arrested a Winterport man after receiving a 911 call from his girlfriend who told dispatchers she was barricaded in the bathroom with her 9-year-old son.
The call came in at about 9:06 a.m. from a home on S. Main Street in Winterport. The woman told dispatchers her boyfriend had access to firearms and was under the influence of drugs, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
The woman and her son were able to safely get out of the home. The child was not injured, and the woman had minor injuries, Moss said.
The man, later identified as Joshua Martin, 43, remained inside the home. Police made multiple attempts to contact him but were unsuccessful. After a short time, he came outside and was taken into custody without incident, Moss said.
Martin was charged with domestic violence assault, creating a police standoff, and violating conditions of release. Maine State Police were assisted by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Forest Service, and the Maine Marine Patrol.
