A popular waterfront restaurant in Damariscotta is reopening this week, just 10 months after a fire destroyed its previous building.
The fire broke out the Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina early on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 1, heavily damaging the seasonal eatery that typically would have remained open for another month and a half before it closed for winter. Authorities later determined the blaze was likely caused by electrical circuitry overheating.
But immediately after the fire, the restaurant’s owners vowed to rebuild.
Now they have, and they are due to hold a soft reopening on Wednesday, followed by a grand reopening on Thursday, they said on Facebook. They have also hired additional staff and installed updated equipment.
“It will be a day to celebrate,” the business said, referring to the grand reopening.
The restaurant had originally been aiming to reopen by Memorial Day weekend, but it needed more time for decking, plumbing, inspections and licensing.
“This rebuild is no small feat!” the business said in late May.
