Work resumed at Bangor’s Pickering Square construction site Monday morning after months of delays.
The site, located between the Pickering Square parking garage and the Bangor Area Transit Center, was torn up in July 2024 with plans to finish by Halloween of that year.
Excavator and track loader machinery arrived Monday morning to the area, which remains partially fenced-off.
The vacant site has for months been an “eyesore” for business owners and workers in downtown Bangor, who expressed frustration with the city’s lack of progress. City spokesperson David Warren said last week that work would restart “in the coming days” but did not provide an updated estimate for the completion date.
A worker on the scene Monday declined to comment, and Warren did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this spring, the city said work would resume in the first week of June and finish by mid-July, but the site continued to sit unfinished through June. The project has been delayed three times due to challenges of getting materials, the city said.
