To all the Lady A fans who need some new music now, Charles Kelley is confident the day will come soon.
“I think [we] wanted to take some time off again,” Kelley, 43, exclusively shared with Us Weekly while celebrating the release of his solo album Songs for a New Moon. “I think we’re just all coming from a place now where we have been on the hamster wheel for a long, long time. Let’s focus on family. Let’s enjoy that kind of musical reset.”
Back in January, Lady A — composed of Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood — celebrated 15 years since the release of Need You Now. Their last album, which was titled What a Song Can Do, was released in 2021.
“When we come back, we really want to come back with something special and something that maybe we haven’t done before too,” Kelley teased. “I think that just is going to take some time to find that sound. I think we’re just in a spot in our lives where we don’t feel like we have to force it.”

With so many massive hits — including “Just a Kiss,” “I Run to You,” “American Honey” and many more — Kelley is confident fans will continue to see Lady A live to “hear the songs that they’ve fallen in love with.”
In the future, the country artist also pictures fans coming to listen to something new that’s really “special.”

“I think we’re going to take our time and really focus on finding that sound over this next year,” Kelley added. “But we got some touring ideas in the works, so there’s always going to be that. But we really do want to make a great record. I told them, ‘Look at what Adele does.’ She just makes you wait and wait, and then she just drops a big old bomb on you. I love that. I’m hoping we can take some time with it and make something special.”
In the meantime, Kelley is excited to treat fans to his upcoming solo album. Titled Songs for a New Moon, the body of work is an ’80s pop-inspired project celebrating fresh perspective and creative freedom.
“There’s a lot of Phil Collins influences, there’s a lot of Bryan Adams, there’s a lot of Toto in there, Michael McDonald. It’s all kind of thrown in,” Kelley teased. “We just really wanted to pull all those sounds and feels from that whole genre of music.”
