Some Northern Light Health patient files may have been accessed by an unauthorized party following a data breach that occurred in February.
According to Northern Light Health spokesperson Karen Sanborn, sleep disorder diagnostic vendor Compumedics experienced a breach in security between Feb. 15 and March 23. Patients who received services from Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Northern Light AR Gould and Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital may have been affected.
The compromised files would have contained information on patients names, personal demographic information, medical record numbers and other general information about patient treatment. Officials do not believe that patient social security numbers, health insurance or financial information was compromised.
After the data was secured, Compumedics worked to improve data security. It advises that any patients who may have been affected review their documents to ensure that they were not billed for suspicious charges from services they did not receive.
Anyone affected by the breach has been notified by mail being sent Thursday.
Northern Light Health IT systems were not affected by the data breach.
