A bicyclist died on Friday after being struck by a vehicle on Route 1 in Scarborough.
The cyclist, 59-year-old Howard Gribbin, was riding south on Route 1 near Southgate Road when he was struck at about 4:15 a.m., the Scarborough Police Department said. The motorist left the scene of the collision.
Gribbin was transported to Maine Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, Scarborough police said.
Police are searching for the motorist, who is believed to have been driving a silver SUV that would show significant front-end damage from the collision.
