SOUTH BRISTOL – Yvette Torres Fine Art is pleased to present “Barbara Brady: A Buoyant Hope”, the fifth solo exhibition for this Blue Hill Peninsula-based artist. The exhibition runs from July 2 to Aug. 3 with an artist reception on Saturday, July 5 from 4-7 p.m.
Brady’s latest work highlights the importance of maintaining hope, especially during uncertain and challenging times. Although hope may seem elusive or unattainable for some, the pieces in this exhibition encourage viewers to recognize it as a vital catalyst for change. Hope provides a way to face challenges with resilience and strength, strength that is further enhanced by a sense of purpose. Her use of bold colors and gestural brushwork symbolizes urgency — the need to propel that which is hoped for into fruition.
The painting “A Buoyant Hope” features a vibrant blue square positioned securely within a larger frame, floating steadily and securely upon a dark and tumultuous sea. The contrast between light and darkness evokes a sense of resilience and optimism amidst chaos, encouraging viewers to reflect on the fragility and strength of hope. In “Unshakable,” a commanding red form surrounded by light pushes into the darkness. Meanwhile, “Tunnels End” takes the viewer on a journey from a long, dark passage into the brightness of a new beginning. As Brady states, “The need for hope drives us to push through and believe that we can — and will — make things better.”
Brady earned her bachelor of fine arts from Rosemont College and completed two years of post-graduate studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Her artwork has been showcased in both solo and group exhibitions nationwide. Additionally, her work is included in corporate and private collections internationally.
