Three Bangor police officers have been placed on leave after a shooting Thursday afternoon that left one person injured.
Bangor police responded to a house on at 2735 Broadway at about 2:45 p.m. after a person there called 911 to report another person who had a gun and was threatening to commit suicide, Bangor Sgt. Jason McAmbley said.
When the officers arrived the person armed with the gun repeatedly ignored commands to drop the gun. Three officers fired at the person who was wounded and brought to a local hospital for treatment, McAmbley said.
Officers Brian Cronk, Taylor Reynolds and Ben Ferlan have been placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure in a police involved shooting.
The state attorney general’s office investigates all instances of police use of lethal force.
Outer Broadway was closed for several hours during and after the incident.
Correction: An earlier version of this story based on a statement provided by the Bangor Police Department said that the armed person fired at the officers. The department subsequently retracted that statement and issued a new one with that reference removed.
