It was a true honor to attend and speak at the ribbon cutting for the new terminal at the Eastport Municipal Airport on Saturday, June 14. This new facility represents more than just a building — it is a gateway to opportunity for Eastport and the surrounding Down East communities.
The terminal will provide a vital base of operations for medical transport crews and open the door to potential future commuter air service. That means better emergency response, expanded access for travelers, and another tool in our toolbox for growing the local economy. For a rural region like ours, these investments matter.
This project would not have been possible without the leadership and support of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. Her advocacy on behalf of Eastport helped secure a $1.125 million grant through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program. Collins has long understood the unique challenges and potential of rural Maine, and her continued support of Down East communities is deeply appreciated.
It was wonderful to have Collins visit in person to see the project through and celebrate with the community. Her presence and partnership underscore the importance of this achievement, not just for Eastport but for all of Washington County.
On behalf of the people I serve, thank you Sen. Collins for delivering real results and believing in the future of Down East Maine.
