Just weeks after announcing the impending closure of its Portland location, Renys has announced it will be opening a store in Augusta.
The new Renys location will occupy the 32,000 square foot building that formerly housed Big Lots, MaineBiz reported. The new store will be located in the Shaws shopping plaza, and will initially employ around 30 to 40 people, John Reny, owner of R.H. Reny Inc. said.
Renys recently opened its Waterville location. Besides Waterville, Renys has stores in Bangor, Bath, Belfast, Bridgton, Camden, Dexter, Ellsworth, Farmington, Gardiner, Madison, Pittsfield, Saco, Topsham, Wells and Windham, and two in Damariscotta, close to its corporate warehouse and distribution center in Newcastle. The company has around 500 total employees.
In April 2024, Bangor saw a Renys open in the 31,000-square-foot space that was formerly home to The Christmas Tree Shops. The Bangor opening was delayed a day by a spring nor’easter, but rain and snow didn’t deter customers from lining up for their Maine adventure.
