Josh Gad doesn’t know what’s next for Olaf in Frozen 3, but he has some suggestions for potential story lines.
“The truth is that they’ve pretty much kept us in the dark so that we can not feel guilty about not answering any of these questions,” Gad, 44, exclusively told Us Weekly about the franchise’s next installment while promoting his partnership with Amazon for his new Kindle Kids Backseat Book Crew project. “We simply don’t have the answers for them.”
Frozen 3 isn’t scheduled to be released until 2027, but Gad teased that the date is “fast approaching.”
“People will start to know more when Disney wants them to know more,” he said. “It’ll be worth the wait.”

While Gad has no idea what the writers have in store for Olaf, Gad has some interesting ideas for his beloved snowman character.
“There’s a reason that I’m voicing this character and not writing for this character,” he joked. “I would send him on an existential journey that would be like Heart of Darkness style.”
Gad echoed his sentiments — that it’s a “good thing” he’s not on Frozen 3’s creative team. However, he knows whatever they come up with will be great.
“What I love about them is they wouldn’t do this if they didn’t have a story worth telling,” he explained to Us. “I think [it’s] safe to say, they’re very confident about the story that they’re telling.”
Gad has portrayed Olaf since the first Frozen movie premiered in 2013. The Disney film also stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff.
While Gad and Frozen fans continue to patiently wait for the third film, the Broadway star is teaming up with Amazon for Kindle Kids’ Backseat Book Crew which is a book club for kids where they curate their love for reading.
Teaming up with Kindle was an easy choice for Gad, since the device has been a “lifesaver” for his family. Gad shares daughters Ava, 14, and Isabella, 11, with wife Ida Darvish.

“So my girls came to appreciate reading a lot earlier in life than I did when I was around 14,” he told Us. “That’s like when reading stopped becoming a chore and became actually like a passion. For my girls reading became a passion at a much younger age.”
Gad added that he would read to his girls various novels, including the Harry Potter series, and perform all the characters. As his daughters have gotten older, they like to read more than one book at a time — and that’s when a Kindle comes in handy.
“My girls and I think their generation, to a certain extent, like reading multiple books at once,” he said. “It’s a pain in the ass to take a bunch of books with you on a trip, so having this device — that is something that encourages reading — like, you know, children on average who have a Kindle kids read one hour at least a day. It’s incredible. So, like, that’s interesting, giving them this opportunity. My wife and I jokingly call it, like, ‘Screen time we can get behind.’”
