PORTLAND, Maine — Maine will experience the hottest temperatures so far of the season over the next few days.
An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for parts of the state.
This will go into effect Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening as high dew points and warm air temperatures combine to make it feel near 107 degrees.
A Heat Advisory has been posted for northern NH, Southern Oxford and Interior Cumberland Highlands for Monday morning through evening due to feel-like temperatures into the low 100s.
Beginning on Monday, the coastline will be saved from the initial heat due to an ongoing sea breeze, which will keep temperatures into the low-to-mid 80s.
Inland, temperatures will be in the low-to-mid 90s, with persistent humidity throughout the next few days. Dew points should begin in the 60s and low 70s by 7p.m. Monday, jumping back up into the 70s on Tuesday as temperatures climb near the 100s.
Heat index values, or feel-like temperatures will be into the 90s and 100s over the next few days. By around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, forecasters expect that it will feel like 107 degrees in many spots around the area, including both Portland and Lewiston.
Skies will stay partly cloudy both Monday and Tuesday, but the UV index is expected to remain around 9 especially around beaches and lakes. A possible shower or storm shifts through late Tuesday ahead of a cold front.
Mainers should look for relief towards the end of the week.
It will be slightly cooler, but still hot by Wednesday afternoon, with some regions expected to see temperatures linger in the mid to upper 90s.
The major cooldown begins Thursday, with upper 60s expected by Friday. As of Monday, we’ll start the weekend with some showers.
