I am writing with grave concerns about HR 1, President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill that was recently passed by the House. Not only do I find the bill morally reprehensible on just about every level, but it contains a poison pill that I fear will certainly end the separation of powers and leave Trump as a dictator. I refer to: Sec. 70302. Restriction on enforcement, which says:
“No court of the United States may use appropriated funds to enforce a contempt citation for failure to comply with an injunction or temporary restraining order if no security was given when the injunction or order was issued pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(c), whether issued prior to, on, or subsequent to the date of enactment of this section.”
We have long been aware of Trump’s fondness and imitation of strong men like Vladimir Putin, but this provision confirms to me without a doubt that his intentions are absolute power.
I encourage Sen. Susan Collins to please work to defeat this bill in its entirety.
