There’s something satisfying about a series that has a concrete beginning, middle and ending. Hulu has a particularly good selection of miniseries that are stuffed with drama, but wrap up with a true feeling of resolution.

Watch With Us has highlighted five fantastic limited series from Hulu that pack a powerful punch in one satisfying season.

They star actors like Colin Firth, Michelle Williams and Paul Mescal, and they won’t leave you craving resolution. (They may still leave you wanting more, but that’s just because you’ll fall in love with the characters and want to spend more time with them.)

‘Dying For Sex’ (2025)

This Hulu limited series is based on the real life of Molly Kochan, who started a podcast with her best friend Nikki Boyer after a terminal cancer diagnosis made her realize that she wanted to embrace her sexuality to the fullest before she died. Michelle Williams plays a fictionalized version of Kochan alongside Jenny Slate as Boyer, and this moving series depicts how their friendship grows and evolves along the journey to Molly’s death.

Molly learns to advocate for herself — both in the bedroom and in the doctor’s office — by exploring these encounters, and it’s surprisingly beautiful to see how she enacts the lessons she learns along her journey to sexual satisfaction.

‘Little Fires Everywhere’ (2020)

What really makes someone a mother? Is it blood, proximity, love or some indefinable quality? Little Fires Everywhere, based on the bestselling novel by Celeste Ng of the same name, explores that question through the stories of two mothers — the rich and tightly wound Elena (Reese Witherspoon), and the poor and flighty Mia (Kerry Washington) — whose lives become intertwined when Elena rents a house to Mia and hires her as a housekeeper.

As their daughters (Lexi Underwood and Megan Stott) become friends, each woman fears the other’s influence on her daughter’s life. Things become even more complicated when Mia learns that her friend Bebe’s (Huang Lu) daughter is being adopted by a friend of Elena’s, despite Bebe’s desire to get her baby back. Excellent performances and shocking twists, along with fascinating commentary on race and social class, make this compelling drama a must-watch.

‘One Day’ and More TV Shows Based on Popular Books

‘Normal People’ (2020)

This wonderfully intimate young adult drama is based on the novel by Sally Rooney and follows two emotionally damaged teenagers through their last year of high school and into adulthood. Connell (Paul Mescal) is popular while Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is a loner. On the surface, they have nothing in common, but when Connell’s mother (Sarah Greene) becomes the housekeeper for Marianne’s family, the two form a connection that lies somewhere between romance and friendship.

Mental health, money and social circumstances frequently come between them, but each of them helps the other grow during difficult phases of life. The performances from Mescal and Edgar-Jones are incredibly powerful and moving, and the whole series has a naturalistic tone that is rooted in deep and realistic emotion.

‘Pride and Prejudice’ (1995)

Jane Austen’s oft-adapted novel is recreated in vibrant detail in this BBC miniseries adaptation, which won a Peabody award, a BAFTA and an Emmy. It’s the story of Elizabeth Bennet (Jennifer Ehle) and Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth), two members of British society whose initial impressions of one another lead them to loathe one another.

But a series of encounters causes them to fall in love. While it features excellent acting, costuming and set design, this BBC miniseries is perhaps best known for the moment when Firth’s Darcy emerges from a lake in a damp white shirt. This series set the tone for Regency Era stories of romantic yearning for years to come — without the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, there might be no Bridgerton!

‘Fleishman Is in Trouble’ (2022)

Yet another miniseries based on a popular novel, Fleishman Is in Trouble stars Jesse Eisenberg as Dr. Toby Fleishman, a recently divorced dad whose wife Rachel (Claire Danes) abruptly disappears when she is supposed to take over custody of their two kids. As Toby has been experimenting with dating apps, this puts quite a cramp in his style.

Fleishman Is in Trouble is a fantastic examination of modern parenting, social hierarchy and relationships. The characters are deeply flawed and fascinating, and the cast (which also includes Adam Brody and Lizzy Caplan as Toby’s best friends) is a talented and engaging group of actors. When the mystery of Rachel’s disappearance is finally solved, the series only becomes more intriguing.
