A Sedgwick man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for making images of himself sexually abusing children, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Travis Bessey, 30, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor last year to two counts of producing child sexual abuse material. In 2021, Bessey shared images of child sexual abuse to an online chat room. Investigators searched his home and later found images of him abusing children on his phone.
On top of his 60-year prison sentence, Bessey faces supervised release for life and was ordered to pay $20,000 to both of his victims.
Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker, who delivered the sentence Tuesday, said that of the many cases he has handled involving child sexual exploitation, “this is the most thoroughly disturbing case I have ever seen.”
