After a bleak weekend, the crypto market rallied Monday evening as JPMorgan Chase filed to trademark ‘JPMD’, which is suspected to stand for JPMorgan Chase Dollar and to be a stablecoin.

The filing at the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) is for a brand name or logo called ‘JPMD’.

Nowhere does it read stablecoin, either, but industry experts believe the description is consistent with that of a stablecoin, a digital asset pegged one-to-one to the U.S. dollar. The D is another clue, as it’s been used this way in other US dollar-based stablecoins like Circle’s $USDC.
As further testimony of its changing attitude to crypto, earlier this month, JPMorgan Chase even began accepting some of its clients’ crypto-linked assets as collateral.

As news of JPMorgan’s filing made it through the crypto rumor mill, the market responded in favor, temporarily driving up the values of major cryptocurrencies, including $BTC and $ETH.
JPMorgan’s stocks also rose, hitting over $270 per share, a level not seen since February.
