J.J. Spaun battled an emergency 3:00 AM visit to CVS the morning of his 2025 U.S. Open victory.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Spaun, 34, told reporters on Sunday, June 15, that he “ended up running to CVS in downtown because my daughter had a stomach bug and was vomiting all night long.”
Spaun, who posted a 2-over 72 in the U.S. Open’s final round on Sunday to win his first major title, shares two daughters with wife Melody — Emerson, born in 2020, and Violet, born in 2023.
“I was just like, ‘OK, my wife was up at 3am, and Violet is vomiting all over. She can’t keep anything down.’ It was kind of a rough start to the morning,” he said, per the outlet.

The Arizona local had a slow start to Sunday’s competition, starting the day with a bogey on the first three holes, according to Fox Sports. By the end of the sixth hole, the bogey count reached five.
The outlet added that after Spaun secured victory, he told reporters, “Just to finish it off like that is just a dream. You watch other people do it. You see the Tiger [Woods] clip, you see Nick Taylor’s putt, you see crazy moments,” Spaun reportedly said. “To have my own moment like that at this championship, I’ll never forget this moment for the rest of my life.”
In a social media post shared on Sunday by the official PGA Tour X account, Spaun was seen completing some post-win duties with his two children seated in his lap. “Signing the winning U.S. Open scorecard on Father’s Day with your two daughters,” a caption that accompanied the candid snap read, “It does not get better than this.”
In taking out the title, Spaun serves as the first golfer to win the U.S. Open with six or more bogeys in the event’s final round since Hale Irwin in 1979.
While reflecting on the start of his game, the outlet reported that he said, “It just felt, like, as bad as things were going, I just still tried to just commit to every shot. I tried to just continue to dig deep. I’ve been doing it my whole life. I think the biggest difference this year has been being able to do that. Fortunately, I dug very deep on the back nine, and things went my way, and here we are with the trophy.”
Spaun shared a photo of himself on the green with one his daughters via Instagram after competing in April’s 2025 Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. The photo, part of a carousel that captured many memories from the competition, showed Spaun smiling as he ushered his adorable golf club-toting child along. “Another Masters tournament under my belt. This place is so special and every opportunity to play in it is [an] invaluable experience for the next one,” Spaun captioned the carousel.
