Police investigating a violent murder that happened more than 35 years ago have made an arrest and launched a fresh appeal for information.
Kevin Childerley was 30 years old when he was killed in a “savage attack” as he slept in his bed.
His 32-year-old wife Denise survived but required 160 stitches.
Their two children were in the house as the incident unfolded in Mansfield Woodhouse during the early hours of 19 February 1990.
Nottinghamshire Police have now confirmed that a 62-year-old woman was arrested in April on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and has since been bailed.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow said: “This was a savage attack which took the life of a much-loved father and left his wife with lifelong injuries.”
She said “the case has never been closed” – with detectives using “the latest investigative tools” to bring closure to his loved ones.
“Throughout our investigations we have been determined to get justice for both victims in this case, as well as for their two children and the grandchildren who never got to meet their grandad,” she said.
“Kevin was a much-loved family man described as a ‘joker’ with a great sense of humour by those who knew him.”

DCI Burrow said “the attack tore apart the family and robbed Kevin’s children of a lifetime of memories”, with Mr Childerley dying at the scene.
She went on to describe the recent arrest as “an important development” – and urged anyone with further information to get in touch.
“We know the answer to Kevin’s murder lies within the community and we also believe allegiances and loyalties will have changed after the passing of more than three decades,” the detective added.
