I am an old man who, like all old men, and old women, has endured burdens and responsibilities. No, I have never been president of the United States, but I have had a family who depended on decisions I made that affected them and their lives. I accepted those responsibilities when I chose to participate in their creation.
Donald Trump does not seem to get that. From my perspective, his words and his actions suggest that, to him, choosing to be president is not about serving us, but about serving himself. Him not us, me not we.
Just so, sending National Guard troops to California when no one asked for them is like using the United States Marine Corps like a toy to play with. A token in the game Monopoly.
I have served in uniform, I have family in uniform, and nothing about this feels right. Am I overreacting? God knows, I hope so.
