In just her freshman season, Ruth White is already an All-American.
The University of New Hampshire distance runner turned in another gutsy performance in the 10,000 meters, this time at NCAA Division I nationals, and is now one of the top 10 women’s runners at that distance in the entire country.
White finished ninth out of 24 competitors at Thursday night’s national final in Eugene, Oregon. That performance in the 6.2 mile race earns her a spot on the All-America Second Team in just her freshman season.
And what a freshman year it has been for the relentless runner from Orono, Maine. White has now set the school 10K record four different times this year. Her most recent record on Thursday night was a blistering 32:20.60 that was roughly half a minute faster than her previous record set just two weeks ago.
The top 16 runners in Thursday night’s race earned All-America honors.
White entered the race grateful for the opportunity to compete at the highest stage of Division I track and field.
“I just wanna race hard, give it all I’ve got and enjoy the experience,” White said before heading to Oregon.
She will return home having raced hard and secured a well-earned place among the top 10K Division I runners from around the country.
Pamela Kosgei from the University of New Mexico won the 10K national championship with a meet record of 31:17.82.
