
Although daytime temperatures have reached the high 60s and mid 70s throughout northern Maine in the past few days, expect temperatures to cool this evening.
According to forecasters with the National Weather Service, temperatures throughout the North Maine Woods could drop to around freezing overnight, with the potential for frost to develop especially in the valleys.
Temperatures throughout the northern and eastern regions will hover in the mid 60s through the day Friday, with a northwest wind, and skies will be partly cloudy throughout the day.
The Katahdin region could see temperatures drop to the mid-30s overnight, as well as in the Oxbow region and some northern towns including Estcourt Station. Throughout central and eastern Maine, overnight temperatures will likely remain in the mid-40s.
The record low temperature on June 13 for Millinocket is 19 degrees set in 1932, while it was 52 degrees in Houlton in 2000, and 49 degrees in Caribou in 1950.
Heading into Saturday, skies throughout the northern regions are expected to remain mostly clear. Southern Maine will likely experience the brunt of the rainfall predicted to start early Saturday morning, according to forecasters at the Gray NWS office.
Only around a quarter of an inch of rain is expected to fall through southwestern Maine, but rainfall on Saturday will mark the 12th weekend in a row that the state has seen precipitation on either day of the weekend.
Temperatures throughout southern Maine will be in the high 60s throughout Friday, with overnight lows dropping to the mid-50s.
