A mini horse on the loose on a busy Penobscot County road Wednesday was caught with collaboration between the sheriff’s office and several passers-by.
A Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy came across the horse between calls. Several drivers stopped in an attempt to help catch the animal, but “it was clear that more help was needed,” the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.
In stepped a local woman who worked with the deputy to create a halter and returned the horse to its enclosure.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to all who contributed to the situation, particularly Mrs. Riley Sibley, whose compassion and proactive approach were instrumental in resolving the matter,” the sheriff’s office said.
The horse escaped from a nearby enclosure. In an attempt to catch it, its owner fell and injured her leg. She was transported to a nearby hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
