Influencer Tais Bruna de Castro has died at age 36 after reportedly being stabbed to death.
The Brazilian book influencer was reportedly eating lunch in the Beco Fino shopping center located in Jundiai, Sao Paolo, on June 2 when she was approached by a man, per the Daily Mail.
The outlet reported that 40-year-old Claudio Elizeu, who was a cleaner in the shopping mall, stabbed Castro more than 20 times before breaking into an office and smashing windows and furniture. He was then arrested by the police, allegedly telling authorities that he attacked Castro because she was not interested in pursuing him romantically. The outlet noted that the pair did not have a close relationship before her death.
Daily Mail noted that Castro, who was an influencer amassing more than 8,000 followers, also worked as a travel agent in the shopping center. After news broke of her death, Castro’s family paid tribute to her via social media with a black-and-white selfie of the influencer.

“This week, our dear Tais Bruna, the owner of this profile, left us in a very sad and even unbelievable way,” read the statement shared via Castro’s Instagram account called Reader Fashion. “Leitora Fashion was one of her joys. Talking about literature, recommending new works and chatting with you here made her day happier.”
The message continued, “We, her family, sincerely thank you for all the messages and prayers dedicated to her. Her smile, her sweetness and all the joy she always spread will remain forever in our hearts. Today heaven gained one of the most special people that has ever passed through this world. Tais, we will love you forever!

In a separate Instagram post, Castro’s family called on her followers to raise awareness about the manner of her death.

“We can’t let her be just another case, another number. The literary community on social media, led by Tais’ friends, started the #JustiçaPorTais movement and we want it to reach even further!” the statement read. “Not only to keep the memory of our beautiful Tais alive, but also to fight for tougher laws in cases of femicide, an act of cowardice and extreme cruelty against women.”
The statement continued, “We want life imprisonment, the death penalty and whatever else can be done against this type of crime! Help spread this message, so that our voice is heard in the four corners of the country!”
