Shania Twain will donate 50,000 meals to the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine when she visits Bangor for a July concert.
The donation is part of the Shania Twain Foundation’s effort to donate one million meals across the United States while touring this summer, according to an article by EIN Presswire.
“These donations to the Good Shepard Food Bank of Maine will provide direct support throughout the state. We can make a meaningful impact across the country by helping to ensure that food banks are well stocked and, in turn, uplift people in every city we visit this summer,” Twain said in a Monday afternoon press release.
Good Shepherd works to provide both shelf-stable and fresh food to food pantries across Maine. It had been one of the organizations supported by the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program, which allows food banks to purchase fresh produce from farmers, but the program was eliminated in March.
“The Shania Twain Foundation’s generous gift comes at a critical time. Hunger continues to rise in Maine, with 13.8 percent of Mainers, including one in five children, at risk of struggling to put food on the table,” Good Shepherd Food Bank President Heather Paquette said Monday.
Twain will be performing at the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor on July 22.
