I usually read and enjoy V. Paul Reynolds’ column in the paper. However, his May 28 column about Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Judy Camuso, calls for a differing opinion.
Reynolds seems to be troubled with Camuso’s policy that any hiring panels, considering potential IF&W hires, be comprised of 50 percent women. What’s wrong with that? It does not say that she wants 50 percent of all new hires to be women.
My guess is that Reynolds is unhappy that the once male-dominated Maine IF&W is no longer male-dominated. He has cited no instances of incompetence on her part.
Reynolds writes, “… the feds say she has engaged in discrimination…” I’m curious about who in the federal government has enough credibility, at this point, to be taken seriously in judgments of this kind. Every one in the Trump administration, it seems, has been chosen primarily on the basis of complete loyalty to President Donald Trump, with little or no regard to competence on their part.
As far as Gov. Janet Mills having a problem with the feds, she’s one person who had the courage to stand up to Trump. You could argue that the feds are having a problem with her.
