Kristin Cavallari has experienced a lot of “growth” in her life after splitting from Jay Cutler.
“The last five years have been instrumental for me,” Cavallari, 38, told Us Weekly exclusively on Wednesday, June 4, while promoting her new E! docuseries, Honestly Cavallari: The Podcast Tour. “There were a lot of things that I went through in the last five years.”
Cavallari credited “getting a divorce” from Cutler, 42, and “cutting my dad out of my life” as the major changes.
“Finally, I think growing up and realizing that what I had done previously wasn’t working for me and I needed to figure out what needed to change in order to set up the second half of my life to be really peaceful [helped],” she explained. “My whole life was never peaceful. Even in my childhood, it was always chaotic and I really value peace and stillness and quiet now, and I’ve worked really hard to get there.”

Cavallari explained that she’s seen a shift in her “day-to-day life” while living at home in Tennessee.
“Obviously promoting a show, being in New York, this is not my day-to-day life. This is a special moment in time,” she said. “My overall life is very peaceful and very normal, and I’m really proud of that and I’m really happy that I went through the hard times because I came out the other side stronger and way more in tune with who I am and way more comfortable in my skin.”
Cavallari and Cutler announced their divorce in 2020 after nearly seven years together. The former couple shares three kids: Camden, 12, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9. Their split was finalized in 2022.
When asked about the status of her coparenting relationship with Cutler, the reality star offered an update — but didn’t share many details.
“We are doing good,” she told Us. “The kids come first, always.”

Cutler offered a similar sentiment to Us earlier this week.
“The kids kind of do it,” the former NFL star shared on Monday, June 2. “We’ve got our schedule and it works for us.”
Cavallari shared details about her and Cutler’s decision to split during the premiere episode of Honestly Cavallari on Wednesday.
“I do not believe in staying together for the kids,” she said during a confessional interview. “You have to have dark times to get to the good times. Divorce can be a really good thing.”
