Judge Orders Haley Joel Osment to Attend 3 AA Meetings Per Week: Report

A judge has reportedly ordered Haley Joel Osment to attend AA meetings for six months following his arrest for public intoxication.

Osment, 37, was arraigned in a Mammoth Lakes, California, court on Monday, June 2, and granted a one-year diversion as an alternative to criminal prosecution, People reported. As a result, he must attend at least three AA meetings each week until December. He is also required to meet with a therapist at least twice a week.

Us Weekly has reached out to Osment’s rep for comment.

Us confirmed in April that the Sixth Sense star was arrested at the Mammoth Mountain resort and initially booked on charges of public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. He was later charged with disorderly conduct under the influence of alcohol and possession of cocaine.

Stars Who’ve Gotten Sober

Osment had been involved in an argument with staff at the ski resort shortly before he was taken into custody on a Tuesday afternoon. TMZ published a video that showed the actor preparing to board a chairlift despite not having his snowboard with him. A staff member pleaded with Osment to get out of line, while one resort guest tried to tug on him, leading to both falling over.

When the staffer told Osment that security was on its way, he finally relented and exited the line. Another bystander claimed that Osment “absolutely reeked of alcohol” and that after leaving the line, he walked over to his snowboard and appeared to “fumble around with it.”

Body cam footage obtained by Us on April 17 showed Osment being detained in a parking lot in Mammoth Lakes. An officer explained to another officer that he was “beyond intoxication.” As Osment was handcuffed, he claimed multiple times that he was “being attacked” by police during the arrest. Amid the altercation, he made an antisemitic slur against the arresting officer.

One person in the background of the clip alleged that Osment had “lunged at a bartender,” and another person claimed: “He went to the bar, ordered one drink, he was so intoxicated that he spilled his drink. … They served him one drink, he was so drunk he spilled it, and they cut him off.” The person added, “Then he got aggravated, argumentative, he tried to load the lift they refused to load the lift.”

Osment later issued an apology regarding the arrest, telling Us in a statement: “I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner.”

The actor, who lost his Altadena, California home in the wildfires that ravaged the L.A. area in January, said via the statement that he’d had a tough few months, but that didn’t justify his use of a slur.

“The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place,” he said. “But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”

According to People’s Monday report, the Mono County district attorney objected to Osment’s request for a diversion, citing his 2006 DUI arrest. The judge overruled the objection. If Osment successfully completes the requirements of the court-ordered program, the charges against him will be dismissed. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 5, 2026.
